Welcome to week 3 of our newsletter, which was unfortunately postponed to today due to sickness. I am back on deck today and looking forward to the many events we have planned in the coming weeks.
Deadly Australians
On Wednesday at 1.30pm we will walk down to the Quilpie Shire Hall to watch the Deadly Australians Reptile Information show. We are very grateful to Marc for bringing his reptiles all the way from Toowoomba to entertain our children. We will walk back to school after the show in time for afternoon pick up at 3pm.
Prac Student
We have been very lucky to have had Miss Gabby (who usually works in the Prep-2 class) complete her Second Year Practical Placement with us here at St Finbarr’s, with Miss Wells, in the 3-6 class. Miss Gabby will finish her prac on Tuesday.
Welcoming prac students is an important and integral part in encouraging graduating teachers to consider teaching in rural and remote communities. St Finbarr’s is an amazing school to get an authentic hands on practical experience and to learn on the job with fantastic teachers to guide you. We hope she has had a great time in the 3-6 class.
Mother’s Day Liturgy and High Tea
On Friday we will host our annual Mother’s Day Liturgy and High Tea. We are all looking forward to welcoming all our Mother’s, Grandmother’s and Mother figures from our community. Our Liturgy will begin at 2pm. Please RSVP to the school if you are able to make it.
Cross Country
On Friday Abbie, Digby and James all travelled to Charleville to compete in the Cross Country Trials. Everyone tried their best and ran very well. We are very proud to be able to congratulate all 3 students on being selected to go to Wandoan for the Regional Trials on the 26th May. Well done to you all.
Principal Conference
Next week I will be making the very long drive to Charleville! for the Principal's Conference. During this time, we have organised Mary Rutledge to be at school while I am away. Mary will also be here in week 6 to be a relief teacher for our teachers while we have visitors from the office to assist in professional development, curriculum planning and report card and assessment planning. Mary is currently on leave and is looking forward to coming to Quilpie as a relief teacher.
Until next newsletter
All the best,
Kara Marsh

P-2 Classroom News
P-2 have been learning about informative texts and what non-fiction means. We have been writing some interesting sentences and doing lots of work on our spelling words. Our class has been practicing sharing equally between groups and counting to 100!
Next week we will be interviewing some grandparents about what life was like when they were a child. This will help us learn about the past and compare it to our current lives. We have a class museum containing artefacts from the past. If you have an artefact or a photo of one that you can lend to our class museum, please send it in with a brief description of how old it is, who owned it and any other important information.
Prep students have started taking real books home to practice reading. They are still learning all the sounds of the alphabet and are starting to put sounds together to make words. We value your time as a parent reading with your child and supporting their development.

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes. Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
